Glorious Day
Romans 8:12-17
12 Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation--but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, 14 because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down, and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

Keep Justin Bochmann in prayer as he made it through his surgery. He is now in his recovery period. Pray that God grants him peace, courage, and full restoration. Pray for Charlie Brown, asking for continued health and strength. Prayers for David Lief, who is experiencing breathing difficulties related to COPD. May he feel God’s comfort and strength as he faces this challenge. Also, remember Al Lewerke, who continues to heal from his back surgery. Prayers go out to the Helfers family, our missionaries in South Africa. May God protect them and bless their ministry as they share His love with the local community. Pray for Church Beyond Borders, as they unite people from all regions to worship God in unity. Pray for Calvin Seminary, asking that it continues to be a fertile ground for growth as they prepare and empower the next generation of humble servant leaders. And let us continue to pray earnestly for peace in the Middle East—for a swift end to conflict and for lasting peace to take root in the region.
Matthew 1031, Genesis 21:8-21
God values and loves each person uniquely, just like He cares for the small, common sparrow. We are precious in His sight, and He knows everything about us. Jesus teaches us not to be afraid, as we are more valuable to God than many sparrows. We can trust God with our worries, knowing He loves us with an uncommon and extraordinary love. (Matthew 10:31, Genesis 21:8-21)
What are some hobbies that people enjoy? (Allow time for children to respond.)
Reading, knitting, and photography are popular hobbies. Some people like to build things like model cars or airplanes. Others may enjoy outdoor activities like fishing or hiking. Do you have a hobby? What’s your hobby? (Allow time for children to respond.)
Do you think God has a hobby? OK, I know the Bible doesn't tell us that God has a hobby, but if He did, do you know what I think it might be? Bird watching! If I use my imagination, I can see God sitting in heaven with a pair of binoculars. (Look through the binoculars.) Perhaps He has a book with pictures of all the beautiful birds that He has created, and He is trying to see how many of them he can find with His binoculars. If I really stretch my imagination, I can even hear Him saying, "There's a Bluebird, and a Cardinal. Oh look, there's an Eagle, a Meadowlark, and a Sparrow." A Sparrow? Of course, he would see a Sparrow; there are millions of them. You've seen them -- common, ordinary, brown Sparrows -- but God must have loved them, because He made so many of them.
What birds do you see around the room? (Allow kids to find the birds and say what’s unique about each bird.)
One day, Jesus was teaching His disciples that they should not be afraid. Jesus said, "Don't be afraid when people threaten you. Two sparrows are sold for a penny, but not a single sparrow falls to the ground without your Father knowing it. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows."
A sparrow seems like a common bird. It has been said, "God must have loved the common people, because He made so many of them." I don't think that God sees us as common or ordinary. If He did, He would not love us in such an uncommon and extraordinary way! The Bible says, "Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you." We are more precious to Him than a whole flock of sparrows -- and we know how much He loves the sparrow.
Dear God, we know that we are precious in Your sight. Thank You for loving us with such an uncommon and extraordinary love. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
